新疆目前共记录鸟类487种，其中449种拍摄到照片；2016年，新疆北山羊（梁勇）共记录到鸟类181种，而在今年（截止12月18日），新疆北山羊在新疆记录到了鸟类266种，约占新疆鸟类的54.62%。新疆从1998年开始观鸟活动，迄今20年，随着观鸟队伍的不断壮大，从24小时的观鸟比赛，到记录lifer，year list等，到big year观鸟大年，各种观鸟竞技的玩法说到底都是出于鸟友们对鸟类认知的变化。新疆地域辽阔、生境多样，一年能在新疆究竟可以拍摄、记录到多少种鸟类？ 为进一步推广观鸟活动，壮大队伍，规范观鸟，扩大影响，积极赢得各界的接纳和支持，新疆观鸟会鸟类记录委员会推出“2018观鸟大年”的活动，现将相关事项通知如下： 时间：2018年1月1日00:00——2018年新疆观鸟会年会举办前一日23:59截止； 地点：整个新疆维吾尔自治区范围内 记录：以在“新疆鸟类”网站（http://xinjiang.birds.watch）上传的、规定时间内拍摄到的鸟类图片为依据 [...... read more ]

BIRDING INXINJIANG,CHINA12-18 October 2017Paul Holt & Jan-Erik Nilsenpiholt@hotmail.com INTRODUCTIONIn October 2017 I made my eighth birding trip to Xinjiang, western China. It was an excellent trip - all the logistics worked well and everything ran smoothly. As on all of my previous trips Qingyu WANG & Urumqi based GOU Jun organised the logistics.During this trip we covered about 3000 kilometres and recorded a very modest 108 species. Highlights included three globally threatened species, as defined by BirdLife International was noted with Saker Falcons being noted on four dates, a single White-headed Duck on two dates at Moguhu, Shihezi and two migrating Greater Spotted Eagle in Aertai.Noteworthy other sightings included – one Brown-headed Gull at Moguhu, Shihezi on the 12 October; both Great Grey & Steppe Grey Shrikes; a Hooded Crow at Yawugou reservoir, Manasi on the 16 October; a White-crowned Penduline Tit at Dahaizi reservoir, Manasi on the 13 October; a late Rosy Starling at Yawugou [...... read more ]

Two days ago group of Pygmy Cormorant (Phalacrocorax pygmaeus) was found near Taldykrgan city not far from the Kazakhstan - Xinjiang border. This record means birds of this species can be observed in Ili river basin including Xinjiang territory.
